Xel

Everything went to hell after Emily died in the war.
That fucking war. God vs Satan aka the Apocalypse. If it were just between angels and demons it would have been great. But nooo! Those two had to implicate the humans too.
People were dying in battle and their souls forced to continue fighting. The humans suffered the most. That's were Emily drew the line, the moment she joined the war to save humanity.
She did everything to protect her own kind. Fended off demons, broke angel wings, even stabbed a seraphim. You have to admire her willingness to do anything. And I do mean anything.
For every fight Emily won, two were lost. Until she said *NO MORE!*. With the help of a couple of allies she found Mahes, the original, and did the ultimate sacrifice.
Emily performed a ritual created by Mahes to take down Haven and Hell. She had the power to kill God and Satan, which she did, but because she was born human her soul became unstable and faded out of existence.
The war had it's cost and she paid the bill in full.
In the coming centuries, humanity recovered, advanced, spred out to the stars and even achieved immortality. That's right, people stopped dying. They did every flavour in the book. Artificial bodies, cell regeneration, consciousness transfer, consciousness upload to the mainframe (turns out your soul stays in this plane of existence with your consciousness even if it's a copy). You got to had it to them. People really don't want to die.
You may be wondering who I am. My name is Xel, I was born dead and became the new Grim Reaper.
