Happy New Year!

It was New Year's Eve and all through the night our boy Steven was sad a clown.

He wasn't alone on this magical night, but surrounded by friends inside an apartment. He came to have a good time like every other year, but as hard as he tried it wasn't enough. Something was missing from inside of his heart, a hole he couldn't fill with cheers and booze. "What was wrong?" was bouncing around inside of his head without any answers, not even a thread.

The clock was approaching midnight and in a drunken state Steven took a bottle of vodka with him in the bathroom to sit in the tub. As he locked the door, the bottle was next to his lips and alcohol went down his throat. He felt the burn, but didn't care. At least he felt something else besides sadness.
The boy sat in the tub, closed his eyes for a second and as he opened them he saw a girl.

- Hello!
- 'Sup! I didn't know someone was already inside.
- It's okay. I wasn't doing anything anyway.
- Thanks! What a sip?
- Don't mind if I do. Why are you sitting in the tub?
- I was making sure it can be used as a bed.
- Hahaha! That's funny. No, seriously. What happened?
- Nothing much. Just felt a little melancholic and didn't want to bring everyone else down. So I came here from some alone time to recharge my batteries.
- Do you want me to leave?
- No, no. You can stay. I don't think I can finish the bottle on my own. I need a partner in crime.
- Does the Joker need a Harley? I'll gladly help you.
- Cheers!

- By the way... why are you feeling sad?
- It's stupid.
- Come on! It's not stupid. Trust me.
- Fine... I feel empty and lonely.
- But you're surrounded by friends. People that love you.
- That's why it's stupid. I shouldn't be feeling like this, but here I am.
- Maybe it's just... maybe you feel like this because you want something that you think you need to be whole again.
- Like what?
- I don't know... Maybe you never got that Lego set you wanted for Christmas as a kid or maybe the Batmobile.
- Exactly! he said with a smile on his face. It's got to be the Batmobile. This explains everything.
- I knew it! I have magical powers. And people used to say I was nuts.
- Well, you do need a little madness for magic.
They both smiled as they looked at each other.
- Thank you!
- For what?
- For making me smile.
- Oh shut up and drink!

As the time passed and the two were laughing and talking the "The last song" started playing all around the house.
- I love this song so much!
- Do we have a Cat Empire fan here?
- Yes!! And don't you dare judge me.
- I won't. Does milady care for a dance?
- What? In here?
- Why not? I can't think of a better place.
- Well then. I'll be delighted to dance with you.

Steven grabbed her hand, got out of the tub, got closer to her and started to slow dance. It was like time had frozen.
- You know... I never did catch your name.
- Emily. My name is Emily.
- Nice to meet you, Emily with the beautiful smile.
- Your not so bad yourself, Steven.
- Emily, can I ask you something important?
- Sure! Ask me anything.
- I died, didn't I?

With a sad look on her face, she hugged him in an attempt to hide her face and replied:
- I'm sorry, Steven.
- It's okay. I'm not sad about it. I'm just happy I got to meet you.
- Shut up! You're an idiot! You're making me cry, she said embracing him harder and harder.
- I'm sorry I made you cry. There, there! Everything's going to be okay.

As the dance continued, something had started to happen.
- Hey! I'm... I'm fading. What's happening?
- It means you're not dying. Someone is resuscitating you.
- My friends. They have to stop. I don't what to
- Stop! You have to live. Don't fight it.
- But I want to stay with you! I finally feel whole. I can't just
- No! It's not your time. Please don't fight it. You're making me cry again. Just please... go... don't make it harder than it already is. When you'll wake up you won't remember what happened here. You will forget our conversation, our dance, even... even... even me. Now just go and live.

Hearing those words, Steven grabbed the blue haired girl for one last embrace and a kiss.
- I won't forget you Emily! I promise I won't.
- You... fool... you... you already did forget.

And with that Steven woke up gasping for air, surrounded by his friends.
- Are you okay? You scared us all half to death.
- Yeah! What happened?
- I think you fell down and hit your head. Charlie found you when he came to take a piss.
- That would explain the headache. Good thing Charlie couldn't hold it in.
- That's it. We're calling an ambulance to take you to the hospital and we're coming with you.
- You don't have to come with me. Stay and party. I don't want to ruin the
- Stop talking. What kind of friends would we be if we didn't come with you? Where you're going, the party will follow. You just worry about getting better.
- Thanks guys!

As Steven was carried away to the hospital, followed by his friends, a gentleman and a girl were watching the whole thing as it started to snow.
- My dear, who was that boy?
- Nobody. Just someone that I used to know.

The clock struck midnight.

- What do you know. It's already midnight. Happy New Year, Emily!
- Happy New Year!
